17 Oct County Survey
In a recent survey conducted by the Greensburgh Group, it was found that a majority of San Bernardino County’s citizens do not trust their local elected representatives. The respondents were asked various questions regarding trust of the county officials, past reform measures, current county government prioritizations, and interest in being involved with local reform.
In 2020, 67% of San Bernardino voters supported Measure K, which limited county supervisor term limits and reduced their salary. In response to the measure passing, the County supervisors sued to reverse the Measure K, and a Judge overturned Measure K in October 2021.
Knowing this, over 50% of survey respondents said they do not trust their elected officials and believe they are corrupt. When told the County Supervisors prioritized political donors over local citizens by giving donors hundreds of millions of dollars in legal settlements, 37% said they do not trust their local elected representatives, 34% believe the local government is corrupt, and 20% are still unsure. 50% of the survey respondents believe that government reform can happen, while 29% were unsure, but are willing to try. A little more than 200 individuals said they believe so much in the reform, they would be willing to run for local office in order to assist in making the difference.
