What are Measures K & J?

What are Measures K & J?

Measure K will get you this …

  • Measure K will get you a county supervisor that genuinely cares about where we live, and not the money in their pockets and skyrocketing retirement fund.
  • Measure K will reduce the board of supervisor’s salary from $250,000 annually to a living wage of $60,000, on par with the San Bernardino County’s median household income.
  • Measure K will ensure our County Board of Supervisors returns to the citizen legislative body it was intended to be.
  • Measure K will give voters the opportunity to hold their elected representatives accountable.
  • Measure K will not allow Big Money from Real Estate Developers, Lawyers, and Doctors to interfere with decision-making throughout our county.
  • Measure K will make county supervisors spend their time helping the county and not sitting on boards of private entities.
  • Measure K will allow the voice of the people be heard and allow them to bring initiatives to the table.
  • Measure K restricts the Board of Supervisors to have complete authoritarian control of the county.
  • Measure K keeps ethics training and requirements for the Board of Supervisors and their staff.
  • Measure K will no longer allow Supervisors to make over 220% more than San Bernardino County median households.
  • Measure K will no longer allow our Supervisors to make more than our governors, congressmen/women, and assemblymen/women.
  • Measure K will ignite an alleviation of county budget spending.

Measure J will get you this …

  • Measure J will be nothing more than a consolidation and expansion of powers for County Supervisors.
  • Measure J allows supervisors to give themselves raises without your vote.
  • Measure J will help Big Money such as Real Estate Developers, County Doctors, and County Lawyers have more input on County decision-making.
  • Measure J allows County Supervisors to spend more time sitting on boards of private entities that can influence politics in San Bernardino County with their money.
  • Measure J will restrict the voice of the people and their initiatives: Incorporating legal language in the new charter that prohibits citizens from even circulating an initiative petition.
  • Measure J makes current supervisors exempt from term limits.
  • Measure J allows the Board of Supervisors to have additional time to fill a vacancy on their board – allowing more consolidation of power and neglecting of duties.
  • Measure J allows the current supervisors and any elected in November to be exempt from reduced compensation.
  • Measure J allows Supervisors to have complete control of hiring and firing of staff on the board – allowing them to hire who is in their best interest, not the county’s best interest.
  • Measure J allows Supervisors to change how meetings are run.
  • Measure J allows for an increase in the power of county officers by ordinance.
  • Measure J makes it more difficult to remove an officer.
  • Measure J removes ethics training requirements for Supervisors and their staff.
  • Measure J lets the overpaid County CEO appoint the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, County Clerk, and County Attorneys, without voter approval.
  • Measure J also allows for an increase in power for county officers by ordinance.
  • Measure J allows the supervisors to create boards and commissions that may grant additional powers and duties.

It’s important to understand, when voting for Measure K or Measure J, please choose one or the other. Not both. Although Measure J may sound like a good idea, remember that “Charter Reform” is a deceptive description of what this measure truly does. Measure J will take the citizens power away. So remember to vote YES on Measure K and NO on Measure J.
